Skills & EmploymentNew social trends such as aging population, immigration and falling birth rates facing the European Union mean that Europe has to adapt its ambitious employment strategy to these new social challenges.
The retail sector plays a vital role in the European economy, employing some 26 million people and generating 13% of EU GDP. Retailers have very strong roots in their local communities. It is one of the few sectors that offer significant job opportunities in built-up, densely populated areas. It is a sector that actively recruits those who have been long term unemployed, and trains them not only in retail but in many other skills too.
