The protection of the internal market is important to ensure the economic development of Europe and the free movement of goods and services is a cornerstone of the European Union.
However, especially in a context of economic slowdown, Europe must ensure that trade with third countries is not restricted by protectionism (e.g. anti-dumping measures) so that retailers can source their goods competitively and propose affordable prices to consumers.
ERRT members have sought new ways of delivering value and choice to shoppers increasingly sourcing from outside the European Union. ERRT members and their suppliers respect high standards of quality, protection of human rights and of the environment, cooperating with local authorities and NGOs.
The retail sector is driven by consumer choice and in order to respond to their demands, healthy competition is key to ensuring consumer benefits are delivered.
